Updated: May 6

So you’ve heard the buzz about pickleball. Maybe a friend dragged you into a game, or you saw people playing in void decks with the loudest pock-pock-pock you’ve ever heard. You’re curious, and we love that for you.

Here’s your beginner-friendly guide to where to play pickleball in Singapore… and what to bring so you’re not caught with a sad paddle and no water bottle.

2. Community Clubs (CCs)

Many CCs around Singapore now offer pickleball courts or host beginner sessions. Check your local CC for weekly sessions or “Learn to Play” classes.

Nanyang CC has a club that you could check out here.

3. Pickleball Clubs & Groups

Join beginner-friendly pickleball communities on Facebook, Meetup, or Telegram. Some run casual games in void decks or badminton courts.

Try searching for:

  • “Singapore Pickleball Players”

  • “Beginner Pickleball SG”

  • “Pickleball (Your neighbourhood name)”

People are friendly! Just ask if you can join a game. Most will say yes.

What to Bring to Your First Game

✅ A Good Paddle

We recommend fibreglass paddles for beginners: lightweight, comfy to hold, and great for control. (Shameless plug: ours are custom-printed and beginner-first.)

Avoid:

  • Wood paddles (heavy, clunky)

  • Carbon fibre paddles (too stiff for learning)

💧 Water Bottle (Big One)

Singapore’s sun doesn’t mess around. Bring more water than you think you need. Or coconut water. Or isotonic drinks. Just stay hydrated.

👟 Non-Marking Shoes

You don’t need expensive court shoes! Just something with grip that won’t leave marks on indoor courts. Many use badminton shoes.

🧢 Sun Protection (If outdoors)

If you’re playing at rooftop courts or open areas, bring:

  • Sunscreen

  • Cap or visor

  • Light towel

🏐 Balls (If you're hosting)

Buy standard outdoor or indoor pickleballs. Most courts don’t provide them. Decathlon or Joola brands work great, or check with your group. (Shameless plug again: House of Tembusu paddles comes with 2 FREE pickleballs every single time you order!)

🎉 Bonus: What NOT to Bring

  • A competitive mindset (you’ll stress yourself out)

  • Shame about missing a shot

  • That one friend who yells (angry words, no sportsmanship) during casual games...

Your First Rally Starts Here

Pickleball in Singapore is growing, and you can be part of it. Whether you’re playing at your neighbourhood CC or under Tembusu shade trees at a void deck, just start.

And if you want a paddle that feels like you, not something off a shelf, check out our beginner-friendly, fibreglass paddles at House of Tembusu.
